Matthew 7, Genesis 24

Matthew 7:24-28

One thing is for certain, whether one builds on sand or upon rock, trials will beset us all- but what you build on or whether you actually put what you hear in God's Word into practice is what determines what condition your 'house' will be in afterwards.

Genesis 23:14-16

Abraham was gifted the land to bury Sarah but he graciously declined and decided to pay full price. I guess he didn't want to be beholden to them? I'm not sure if this had anything to do with them not worshipping God or being canaanites.

Genesis 24:8
Abraham honored the covenant God had made with him and made sure his servant would do. He was deliberate and exact in recounting what the Lord had told him regarding taking Isaac back there.

Genesis 24:13, 19
The servant asked for, and received a sign- direct confirmation that Rebekah was Isaac's wife. I think because he earnestly desired to please his master and his job (perhaps life, even) depended upon him getting this right, God heard his cry and obliged him, even though he probably didn't have as intimate a relationship with God as Abraham did. God rewards our fervor and answers those who diligently seek him.
