Zelophehad’s daughters. Their story shows once again how God protected women in a deeply patriarchal society. In daring to ask questions, they totally revised the rules. God himself told Moses they were right. But what if they had never asked? After all, no one in history - whether male or female - had asked these questions before them, or had made this demand. If they hadn’t asked and demanded, Women would have remained disenfranchised - scarily, not because this situation was ‘right,’ but because no one had ever thought to ask questions about what was clearly an injustice. It takes someone to dare sometimes. What pioneers!

‘You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.’ What are God’s concerns when it comes to me? The next verse provides the answer: denying myself, taking up my cross, and following him. Tough on a daily basis, Lord! Help me when I’m weak.
