Deception
That’s the theme I see running through today’s readings.
King Rehoboam was deceived by his peers. He really needed wisdom and discernment to figure out who to listen to - whose words sounded like God’s words.
To hold on to power, Rehoboam deceived the Israelites, luring them into worshipping idols. How??? I get it, though, when I really think about it. It’s easy to slip. Help me not to ditch Your Word in favor of the carrots that are dangling before me!
One committed, steadfast prophet was deceived by another. After being so resolute! He knew what God had said! He heard for sure. But then, people can derail you and make you doubt. The deceiver was also a prophet, after all. We have to be careful. Ears to hear you, Lord. A heart to know and love you, Lord. Keep us free from deception in all its various forms.
