Exodus 16-18; Matthew 18

Exodus 16

Help me to trust you completely at all times, Lord. Help my unbelief that I might obey your Word. I relate to the fear of the Israelites: taking more than instructed to for fear of having no food tomorrow. Hunting for food outside when they were instructed to remain inside. Trying to save for a rainy day out of fear that You wouldn’t provide. I see myself in their actions. Help me to remember that you are already there at my tomorrow, and you’ll never leave me nor forsake me. After all, you never have! That’s my testimony.

Exodus 17
Forgetting all about what the Lord has done when the miracle grows old and life’s discomforts set in. Save me from this, Lord! And yet, thirst isn’t easy to cope with. Not just your thirst, but that of your children as well! Even in that sort of tough situation, may I maintain unwavering faith in your goodness and love. You always come through.

The Amalekites! After a great victory over the Egyptians and a period of respite, then the enemy comes in another form. But the solution is still the same: lift your hands up to God, your help! I noticed Moses didn’t need to pray about this one. He knew God was with him and all he had to do with use the staff he’d been given and lift his hands up, tiring as it was. May I never grow weary of looking to You. And for times when I do, surround me always with others to faithfully lift my hands for me.

Exodus 18
The wisdom of elders. Thank God for Jethro’s advice. As spiritual as Moses was - talking directly to God - he still needed the advice of an elder. He hadn’t realized there might be some other strategy for leading the people. Fortunately, he listened and this saved him from burnout. I also need to learn to delegate better. Interestingly, God stayed silent in this conversation. I guess I shouldn’t be, but I’m always surprised by how the Bible balances spirituality with practicality. Sometimes, we just need to use common sense.

Matthew 18

Vs. 10: our children have angels assigned to them. May the angels of my children and my Sunday school children undertake for them. I pray for every child that has sat in my Sunday School class. Keep them in your way, Lord, and may the angels of those who may have strayed arise and bring them back to your fold.

Vs 19. ‘when two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action’ (The Message). Amen!!!
