Genesis 23-24; Matthew 7

Gen 23
God gave Abraham such favor in a foreign land. Unprecedented favor. Living in a foreign land myself, this caught my attention. But God did this because of Abraham’s faithfulness. Can I be that faithful to God? Lord, I want to be. Make me what You want me to be. Bless me in this land.

Gen 24
Vs 7: ‘He will send his angel before you do that you can ...’ Lord, in my endeavors, send Your angel before me, and direct all my paths.

Vs 8: The willingness of the woman was not overlooked in this otherwise very spiritual process of finding a partner. I love how God balances out spirituality with practicality.

Vs 12-14: The servants prayed a simple prayer, and before he was even done, the answer was given. And he prayed this prayer in his heart. Note to self: prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. Just pray! I think all the ceremony that’s sometimes associated with prayer makes it seem exhausting and unappealing to non-prayer warriors like me.

Matt 7: 21-23
Out of all the verses I read today, these are the ones that struck me the hardest. I’m noticing for the first time that those whom Jesus never knew (but were still calling Him ‘Lord, Lord ...’) were focused on the gifts of the Holy Spirit only: prophecy, working of miracles, discerning of spirits. Exercising our gifts is great and important, but all God is looking for is the one who does His will (vs 21). Short and simple. Cut through all the noise and activity. Bottom line: just do My will. First things first. I’m always involved in tons of things. Always busy – and spiritual things are a part of my busyness. In all my busyness, am I doing His will? Obeying His Word? Or am I hoping that all the other stuff can stand in for what He really wants?

This is the focus of my meditation today.
