Genesis 31-32; Matthew 9:18-38
Genesis 31
You might have a promise from God (a promise of prosperity
and increase), but be aware that the promise might just be the beginning of
your journey. Despite Jacob’s powerful promise from and covenant with the Lord,
he passed through things.
o
He fell out of favor with his father-in-law
o
His brothers-in-law falsely accused him of
taking their father’s wealth
o
His father-in-law cheated him by changing (reducing,
I suppose) his wages 10 times, even though he worked extremely hard on his
behalf and made him prosper
All this, despite the promise from God!
And in the midst of it all, all God said was, ‘I will be
with you.’
But as always, no detail of Jacob’s life escaped God’s
attention. God saw all that was going on and instructed Jacob to go back to his
father’s land. Gen 30:12 – ‘… for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to
you.’
Gen 31
Rachel continues to disappoint and confuse me with her
decisions! Let’s see what happens tomorrow.
Matthew 9
The importance of just having faith. However you come to the
Lord – and we all have our different styles of approach him – come in faith. The
synagogue leader came right in front of him and knelt down. The woman with the
issue of blood came up behind him and just touched him without saying a word
out loud. The blind men joined forces and came as a group of two to yell out
their request desperately. They all came in faith, though. They all knew and
believed he could do what they were asking for.
‘Your faith has healed you.’
‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’
According to your faith, let it be done to you.’
This emphasis on faith makes me wonder about where my faith
level is. I think the more our measure of faith, the more we actually pray
because we just know that God will answer. Help me unbelief, Lord. I know you
can do all things.
