Old reading from Deuteronomy
Should've posted this ages ago:
I’m so exhausted today after three weeks of long meetings, that I just couldn’t get out of bed this morning. Sometimes, you need to just listen to your body, in spite of deadlines. Perfect opportunity to finally catch up on my readings!
Deut 23
- Curses by others are subject to God. He can decide to turn a curse into a blessing.
- Accepting God as Lord over curses. No Moabite was ever to enter the assembly of the Lord. Yet, we know the story of Ruth, the Moabitess.
- The whole reading has a theme of kindness and consideration and consistency running through it. God expects these things of us.
- Mark 14: wordless worship. The woman with the jar of perfume. Persistent worship despite the scorn and distraction of men. The validation that Jesus gave. He described what she did as ‘beautiful.’
- Matt 14: Jesus’ prayer. Prayer is about pouring your heart out to God. Telling him whatever is in your heart, and trusting him to align your desires with his will. Praying again and again until you have peace.
- Deut 29:29: ‘ ... the things revealed belong to us and our children, that we may follow all the words of this law.’ Matt 14:72: ‘Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him ... And he broke down and wept.’ Phew! Lord, please give me and my children the revelation knowledge we need in every area of our lives, for it is this revelation and depth of insight that will prompt our obedience to your word. Help us also to remember and take heed to your word way before the cock crows.
